ブライトン生まれ。7歳ころから肺結核になってしまう。

1884年、ブライトン・グラマー・スクールに入学。
89年にロンドンの保険会社に就職した。
バーン＝ジョーンズやホイッスラーに影響を受け、美術館に通うなどして自己流で絵画修業をした。

1891年、作品をバーン＝ジョーンズに見てもらうと、その才能を認められ、ウエストミンスター美術学校の夜間部に通い始めた。
その年の秋、マロリー作「アーサー王の死」の挿絵を依頼された。これがきっかけで、学校も会社も辞めて画業に専念する。

1893年、雑誌『ステュディオ』創刊号にビアズリーが挿絵とともに紹介され、世に出るきっかけとなった。

1894年、オスカー・ワイルドの英訳『サロメ』に挿絵を描いた。同年、文芸誌『イエロー・ブック』が創刊され、ビアズリーは美術編集を務めた。

1895年、オスカー・ワイルドが同性愛事件で逮捕される。ビアズリーは関係なかったが、事件の余波を懸念した『イエロー・ブック』の編集者より、美術編集を下された。

1896年、『イエロー・ブック』の対抗誌『サヴォイ』を出版。

1897年、カトリックに改宗。
1898年、結核の療養をしていたが、転地先の南仏マントンで没した。
